SBQ Practice

This is the SBCS on PSLE T Score.

You may use this for practice of your O Level Humanities. However, it must not be used as a reference to O Level Standard as it is not based on any of the three themes examinable for O Level SS or any of the Four Themes of O Level History.

PSLE T-Score

Transformed Score has gotten the attention of most Singaporean in recent years. This is obvious as it has been mentioned in the NDP 2013 which every one would watch.
The Government want to dispose of using of such T Score as it uses the students' ranking and position as compared to other students. If a student got 221 compared to a student which got 222, many presume thay the student would got 222 is much intellectually better than the student who got 221. Thats the unnecessary comparisons that the MOE do not want to instill to PSLE students.
ULTIMATELY, I feel that such arrangement of using the grades of the students is ineffective. The MOE should be using a wider band of grades instead to judge the PSLE,  however isnt this creating the same comparison as well? If a student scored a B3 in O Level English compared to a student who gotten A2 for his English. It is obvious that the student who gotten A2 is better in English than the other student who gotten B3! In fact, using larger bands is much more worse than the students. Just one mark would cause a child spot in a secondary school. Last time, a student who has gotten 242 for a school that COP is 243 can at least appeal for a spot in the school. However, now there is a large numbers of students with the same grade appealing into a school. Now I don't see why the school has no choice but to reject all the students' appeals!
This decision is also showing the "lack of backbone" for modern students. Why would MOE make such a decision on 2013 and not earlier. Why would MOE stop listing down top and lowest aggregate scores? This is merely because that current students are emotionally weaker and vulnerable than past year students. You "reap what you sow", if the lowest aggregate candidates know that they are being the lowest in the entire cohort, they will feel remorseful as they did not even make the effort to study! I have seen PSLE student, at the eve of PSLE english paper, go out and have click outing! They should be at home preparing of one of the most important examinations of their lives! I understand that the difference of 1 point means a lot to PSLE students, however students cannot understand that that score is unreliable in understanding your position in society! It is only reliable to know your prowess in your FOUNDATIONAL knowledge. For students nowadays to take things to seriously, is showing a lack of backbone...
My advise to MOE: Keep using the PSLE T-Score, it is Singapore's tradition and culture. We should not changing the system due to complains by parents who are sort of overprotecting their children. There is no system that is entirely effective, but the T-Score system is much more reliable than the Grades-System.
For your use, I have prepared a set of Specimen Paper O Level Humanities SBCS based on PSLE T-Score! It will be ready by one working day in my next post!
Over and out.

Review: O Level 2014 Chinese

I did this Year O Level Chinese Paper, It was So-so.

During Paper 1, it was really tricky and horrendous. For the email writing, I wrote Q2, which was a complain towards the shopping mall. I longed to write this topic, as I have been recruited many times by my family before to complain. Bonus, think I will get 14-15 for that question...

Composition was the most horrendous. i wrote question 5, which was on 取之于社会 用之于社会. I understand 80% of the question, except the 取之于社会 用之于社会, which was the most important part of the question. Without that, will 偏题. However, I did mention about the meaning of 取之于社会 用之于社会, which was to thank the contributor to your success. I think I may 偏题.

For Paper 2, it was easy, nothing special about this paper.

Review: PSLE 2014

Well, I didn't take part in this year's PSLE, my sibling did. When I listened to my sibling telling me some of the questions in this Year's PSLE, I was like "What?"

All the Editing Questions were really complex words, such as aquarium, etc. Some of the students in my sibling's school could not spell some of the words. They are words that are not included in the PSLE's 100 Commonly Mispelt Words that the school provided, maybe that is the reason why SEAB wanted to set these words for the PSLE!

Also, the Synthesis and Transformation Questions were really weird! Example of this weirdness is the second question (answer being Between the two mountain is a bridge, or something like that.) A lot of the questions were Transformation questions.

This year PSLE English Paper was the final year for the old syllabus, therefore MOE wanted to increase the difficulty of the paper. However, I am surprised to see that many students thought that the paper was easy, probably from the high raw score of this year's 2014 English Paper 2!

For next year cohort, here's things to take note:
1. Be wary of the editing, more and more complex but not commonly misspelt words will come out from now onwards,
2. The New Visual Text Comprehension will be based on the Visual Text shown at O Level English, therefore for a challenge in this section, do the English 1128 Syllabus O Level TYS (2013-2014).
3. The new Composition Section will require you to think of different perceptions of the three pictures. Try to use all pictures, as that would allow you to have an easier time getting the Content Marks.
4.  Try to understand what some animals/images symbolises as, such as a goose as peace and chess as a power stuggle.

The Maths Paper was relatively "easy" for the paper. However, my sibling got a B instead of an A* which my sibling got in his prelims. Therefore, SEAB has fooled ALL OF YOU! The questions requires a lot of unpacking and digesting, much like this year's O Level Chemistry Paper. The students of this cohort has underestimated the questions and got a lot of questions wrong. Therefore, if you have gotten an A* for this paper, you may have gotten an A instead.
If you want some of the questions that came out for this paper or even the question papers for the 2014 PSLE Paper, please PM me (subject to availability).

The Science Paper was very easy to my sibling, but after I heard about the questions of the paper, I was like *exasperated. It was really hard! Why would everyone think that the paper was really easy? Some even mix up some facts just to answer a question, such as the fungus growing on the feet question. 50% of the Section B questions required a complex thinking process in order to be answered. This is equivalent to this year's O Level Science Papers, which everyone answered very badly, which I heard. If that is the case, why would the PSLE student think that the questions are really easy.

Therefore, I would recommend the following things:

If you have enough funding for your PSLE expense, buy the Chemistry, Biology and Physics O Level TYS. There are several topics that make use of Primary School Topics, such as Reproduction and Matter. O Level questions are really tough, therefore this would train you to answer the questions in the PSLE.

Do you have any questions? Post below or just PM me!

Over and out.
